Ignace Matondo

Ignace Matondo Kwa Nzambi CICM (born April 12, 1932 in Bwamanda / Yakamba , Equateur Province ; † September 9, 2011 in Kinshasa ) was a Congolese religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Molegbe .

Life

Ignace Matondo Kwa Nzambi, son of a family from Congo Central and Angola , first studied in the seminary in Kabwe , then joined the religious community of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scheut, Belgium , on September 8, 1958 . After studying sociology in Rome , he was ordained a priest on August 2, 1964 in Rome . In 1969 he returned to Kinshasa and was responsible for youth pastoral care in the Archdiocese of Kinshasa, at the same time chaplain of the parish of Saint Pierre de Kasa-Vubu. As pastor of St. Alphonse de Matete, he founded the movement "Initiation traditionnelle Négro-Africaine" (English: introduction to the tradition of black Africans), from which in 1974 the Catholic youth movement Bilenge ya Mwinda emerged. In 1975 he founded the Soeurs de sainte Thérèse de l'Enfant Jésus religious congregation in Basankusu .

Pope Paul VI appointed Ignace Matondo on November 18, 1974 Bishop of Basankusu . The Archbishop of Kinshasa , Joseph-Albert Cardinal Malula , donated him episcopal ordination on April 13 of the next year; Co- consecrators were Pierre Wijnants MSC , Archbishop of Mbandaka-Bikoro , and Louis Nganga a Ndzando , Bishop of Lisala . Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Molegbe on June 27, 1998 .

On May 23, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
