The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa ( Latin Archidioecesis Kinshasana , French Archidiocèse de Kinshasa ) includes the Congolese capital Kinshasa and the left bank of the Congo to the Kasai .
history
On September 22, 1886, the Mission sui juris was founded in the Belgian Congo , which was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate of Léopoldville on May 11, 1888 . From 1934 to 1953 it split into further independent Apostolic Prefectures and Apostolic Vicariates , each with new territories. On November 10, 1959, the Vicariate Apostolic of Léopoldville was raised to the Archdiocese. Since the city of Léopoldville was renamed Kinshasa on May 30, 1966 , the archbishopric has also been named Kinshasa .
