Joseph-Albert Cardinal Malula (born December 12, 1917 in Léopoldville , Democratic Republic of the Congo , † June 14, 1989 in Leuven ) was Archbishop of Kinshasa .

Life

After studying philosophical and theological studies, Joseph-Albert Malula received the sacrament of ordination in 1946 from the Vicar Apostolic of Léopoldville, Georges Six . He then worked as a pastor in various parishes and as a lecturer at the boys' seminar .

In 1959 Pope John XXIII appointed him . the titular bishop of Attanasus and auxiliary bishop , whose leadership Joseph Malula was transmitted with the appointment as archbishop on July 7, 1964, the Apostolic Vicariate of Leopoldville, later Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa. The Vicar Apostolic Félix Scalais donated him the episcopal ordination on September 20, 1959. Co- consecrators were the Vicar Apostolic of Luebo , Joseph Ngogi Nkongolo , and the Auxiliary Bishop in Kisantu , Pierre Kimbondo .

From 1962 to 1965 he took part in the Second Vatican Council . Joseph Albert Malula died on June 14, 1989 in Leuven, Belgium . He was buried in the Notre Dame du Congo Cathedral in Kinshasa. Malula was significantly involved in the development of the Zairian mass rite .
