The archdiocese of Mbandaka-Bikoro ( lat. : Archidioecesis Mbandakana-Bikoroensis ) is in the Democratic Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Mbandaka .
history
The Archdiocese of Mbandaka-Bikoro was founded on February 11, 1924 by Pope Pius XI. established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Nouvelle-Anvers as the Apostolic Prefecture of Tsuapa . On 28 January 1926, was Apostolic Prefecture Tsuapa in apostolic prefecture Coquilhatville renamed. The Apostolic Prefecture of Coquilhatville was on March 22, 1932 by Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Iam Litteris raised to the Apostolic Vicariate .
On November 10, 1959, the Vicariate Apostolic Coquilhatville was by Pope John XXIII. raised to an archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum . The Archdiocese of Coquilhatville gave on September 11, 1961 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Ikela . On May 30, 1966, the Archdiocese of Coquilhatville was renamed the Archdiocese of Mbandaka . The archbishopric was united on April 12, 1975 with the diocese of Bikoro and renamed the Archdiocese of Mbandaka-Bikoro.
