The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lubumbashi ( lat. : Archidioecesis Lubumbashiensis ) is in the Democratic Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Lubumbashi .
history
The Archdiocese of Lubumbashi was established on August 5, 1910 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Léopoldville as the Apostolic Prefecture Katanga . On May 12, 1925, the Apostolic Prefecture Katanga gave parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Luapula Superiore . The Apostolic Prefecture Katanga was on March 22, 1932 by Pope Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Magna cum delectatione raised to the Apostolic Vicariate .
On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Katanga was by Pope John XXIII. raised to the archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum and renamed the Archdiocese of Elisabethville . The Archdiocese of Elisabethville was renamed the Archdiocese of Lubumbashi on May 30, 1966 .
