The diocese of Kongolo ( lat. : Dioecesis Kongoloensis ) is in the Democratic Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Kongolo .

history

The diocese of Kongolo was established on June 30, 1911 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Léopoldville as Apostolic Prefecture of North Katanga . The Apostolic Prefecture of North Katanga was founded on June 18, 1935 by Pope Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Digna sane raised to the Apostolic Vicariate . On March 8, 1951, the Apostolic Vicariate North Katanga was renamed Apostolic Vicariate Kongolo . The Apostolic Vicariate Kongolo gave on April 23, 1956 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Kindu .

On November 10, 1959, the Apostolic Vicariate Kongolo was by Pope John XXIII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Lubumbashi as a suffragan . The diocese of Kongolo gave up on April 24, 1971 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Manono .
