The Wolfenbüttel train station is a railway station of the city of Wolfenbüttel to the non-electrified railway lines Braunschweig-Bad Harzburg and Wolfenbüttel Schöppenstedt . It belongs to station category 5. Only regional trains operated by DB Regio and erixx stop at it ; long-distance services do not serve it.

Since a renovation in 2004/2005, in which one of the former three tracks was removed, the historic station building is no longer used for railway operations. The nearest long-distance train station is the Braunschweig main station .

There is a connection to nine city bus routes, which have been operated by KVG Braunschweig since 1992 and which stop at a bus station next to the train station.

history

On December 1, 1838, the station went into operation in the course of the opening of the first national railway line in Germany from Braunschweig to Wolfenbüttel. In 1841 the line to Harzburg was extended, in 1843 the line to Jerxheim also went into operation, Wolfenbüttel became a separation station. On September 20, 1890, a track connection to the Wolfenbüttel West station of the Braunschweigische Landes-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BLE), which opened in 1886, was established, so that freight traffic in the direction of Fümmelse – Hoheweg was possible, but the passenger trains on this route did not run beyond Wolfenbüttel West until 1932 to the state train station. From January 1, 1938, the BLE was nationalized and the operation was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn. From 1942 this line was also expanded in the direction of Beddingen – Groß Gleidingen. Passenger traffic was given up here in 1961, this line was closed in 1976, the connection to Wolfenbüttel West was maintained until the end of 1997.

particularities

Stop and train station

From an operational point of view, the actual Wolfenbüttel station has only started south of the platforms since the last renovation in 2002. The former entry signal and some switch connections on the northern side have been dismantled and the former intermediate signal now functions as an entry signal. It is therefore a stopping point on the open route (HWOH) as well as the southern depot (HWOL) with no stopping points .

Ticket sales in the train station

The local ticket office (DB agency) is located in the "Forum Wolfenbüttel", the shopping center at the train station.
From February 2017 to May 2017, ticket sales was the sales Mobil of DB Vertrieb GmbH ensures the track 1, since in February 2017, the local DB agency was closed.
From June 2017, the regional taxi company, which has since moved into the premises of the former agency, will sell the tickets on behalf of DB Vertrieb GmbH.
