The Brezno – Červená Skala railway line is a single-track main line in Slovakia . It branches off the Podbrezová – Tisovec railway line at Brezno and leads to Červená Skala .

Route description

The route runs in a west-east direction in the valley of the Hron river ( Horehronie region ). The Low Tatras are to the north of the railway line and the Slovak Ore Mountains to the south .

history

The line from Brezno to Červená Skala was inaugurated in 1903.

On February 21, 2009 there was a serious accident on the route when a train hit a coach that was standing on a non-technically secured level crossing near Polomka . Twelve people were killed.

Currently (as of June 2020) there are two pairs of local trains running on weekdays between Brezno and Červená Skala and two pairs of continuous express trains ( regionálny rýchlik, "regional express train ") from Banská Bystrica to Margecany. Until 2014, the Horehronec express train ran once a day on this route ; this name has passed on to one of the express train pairs. Freight traffic is of minor importance.
