Railway Is-sur-Tille – Culmont-Chalindrey to Culmont-Ch.

The Dijon-Ville – Is-sur-Tille railway is a double-track railway in France . This line can be seen as a unit together with the 44 km long Is-sur-Tille – Culmont-Chalindrey railway , which was intended as a main line between Dijon and Belfort . The destination of the originally planned route was Langres station. In Is-sur-Tille , the two networks of the Chemin de fer de l'Est (CE) in the north and the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM) collided.

history

This railway line is a branch of the Paris – Marseille railway line from the exit station Paris Gare de Lyon , from which the route kilometer counting is continued. Accordingly, the line was also built from Dijon, i.e. from the south, and after completion, which was initiated by the state, was managed by the same railway company as the line to Lyon, namely PLM.

According to an imperial decree, eight years have been earmarked for the construction of this very early route, although no special high-rise structures have to be built on this short stretch. The agreement was signed on May 1st, 1863 and published on June 11th. In the years 1866 to 1869 all planning was stopped because no agreement could be reached on the route. To make matters worse, the military also had a say. The cost was estimated at 4.5 million francs . After the first northern section between Is-sur-Tille and Culmont was put into operation in 1874, construction south of Is finally progressed. On November 18, 1875, the contract for a route that still exists today was signed.

Routing

The line branches off the south-facing Paris – Marseille line at rail kilometer 316 to the left and runs in a wide arc around the eastern part of the city. After a few kilometers, it is oriented north and maintains this direction until Is. Apart from four stream bridges, no other high-rise structures such as viaducts, tunnels or overpass structures were necessary. Crossing-free traffic to the main line to and from Marseille was guaranteed.

A special feature is the current change, which has become necessary due to the various traction current systems in France since electrification in 1964. At the kilometer point 325.6, the feed changes from 1500 V = to 25 kV ~ . This route is equipped with ETCS Level 1 .
