Hans Christian Petersen (Rector)

Hans Christian Albrikt Lauritz Petersen (also Hans-Kristian Albrekt Lauritz Petersen , HC Petersen for short ; born July 13, 1925 in Maniitsoq ; † March 1, 2015 in Copenhagen ) was a Greenlandic Højskole rector , teacher and author .

Life

Hans Christian Petersen graduated from Grønland's seminarium in 1950 . He then began to work as a teacher in Uummannaq , but after a short time he fell ill with tuberculosis , which is why he was under medical treatment in Skørping , Denmark from 1951 to 1954 . Because of his illness he founded the Greenlandic Association of Tuberculosis Sufferers Neriuut . After his recovery, he passed his specialist teacher exams in geography and geology . In 1957 he returned to Greenland, where he became a teacher at the Efterskole in Aasiaat . In 1960 he became an information advisor to Greenland. In 1962 Knud Rasmussens Højskole was founded in Sisimiut and Hans Christian Petersen became the first rector, which he stayed until 1975 before moving to Denmark. In 1967 he founded the first Greenlandic production share association Sipineq . In 1982 he returned to Højskole before becoming a research assistant at Ilisimatusarfik the following year .

Hans Christian Petersen was active as an author of fiction or lyric works, but mainly wrote scientific works on the subject of kayaks . For this he was made an honorary member of the kayak associations of Copenhagen and Denmark in 2004. In 1986 he received the Greenland Christmas stamp award and in 1988 the Greenland culture award. On September 4, 1998 he received the Nersornaat in silver. He died in Copenhagen in 2015 at the age of 89.

family

Hans Christian Petersen was the son of the office assistant and regional councilor Ole Petersen (1894–1979) and his wife Marie Karoline Jakobine Rosing (1898–1980). The Eskimologist Robert Petersen (* 1928) and the pastor and state councilor Ricard Petersen (1932-2014) were his brothers. Hans Christian Petersen was married to the Danish Jenny Marie Dinesen (* 1930) since January 14, 1961, who was the daughter of the sawmill owner Thomas Dinesen (1896–?) And his wife Catharine Madsen (1896–1961).
