Swell:

The Emden Rbf - Emden Südkai railway is a branch line in the Lower Saxony city of Emden . It connects the Emden marshalling yard with the Emden harbor . The railway is operated by Niedersachsen Ports .

use

The Emden ore transshipment port used to be located on the south quay. The coal trains from the Ruhr area, known as Langer Heinrich , were reclassified after unloading at the Emden Rbf station and transported to the south quay in Emden shunting locomotives. Conversely, they transported iron ore from here to the Ruhr area. After the decline of ore transport in Emden, the Südkai station fell into disrepair and for a long time was only used to park wagons. It was only after the turn of the millennium that Enercon established a tower construction company for wind turbines on the south quay and rebuilt two tracks in the large area to enable the unloading of several gravel trains per week and the transport of components for wind turbines.

expansion

At the end of 2015, the bridge over the southern bypass was replaced. The old structure was a trough bridge made of concrete, which, due to its construction, no longer offered much leeway for shipments from the company Enercon that exceeded the loading gauge . The new bridge was put into operation in January 2016.
