Career
societies
Nayler played for several clubs in her New Zealand homeland. In May 2016 she switched to the NWSL participant Sky Blue FC , but left after a few weeks without a competitive game. In the same year she signed the French subscription champion Olympique Lyon as the third goalkeeper behind Sarah Bouhaddi and Méline Gérard . There she was not used and switched to league rivals Girondins Bordeaux for the 2017/18 season , where she played most of the games and was seventh and fourth with Bordeaux. For the 2020/21 season, Nayler will move to Reading FC in the English league .
National team
Nayler has been playing in goal since she was around 10 years old. In 2010 she took part in the 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany and was in goal in the three group games in which she conceded eight goals. Since their teammates never scored more goals than they conceded in any game, New Zealand was eliminated after three defeats. A year later she took part in the World Cup in Germany as the third goalkeeper without having previously played an international match, but was not used. Without a win, New Zealand was eliminated after the preliminary round. In April 2012, she and the U-20 team won the 2012 U-20 Oceania Women's Football Championship in her native New Zealand. Nayler was used in two of three games and only conceded a goal in the 10-1 win against New Caledonia. New Zealand qualified for the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan . For the soccer tournament at the Olympic Games in London , for which only two goalkeepers could be nominated, she was only nominated as a "standby". Instead, she took part in the U-20 World Cup a few days later and was used in the three games. New Zealand could only win the first group game against Switzerland. After a 2-2 win against hosts Japan and a 4-0 win against the Mexicans, New Zealand was eliminated in third place.
In March 2013, she then took part with the senior national team in the Cyprus Cup 2013 and came in the game against Italy on March 8, her first appearance in the senior team of New Zealand . She then became the goalkeeper of the New Zealanders and succeeded Jenny Bindon , who played her last international match on June 13, 2013 and announced her retirement in early 2014.
At the women's soccer Oceania Championship in 2014 , she qualified with New Zealand for the World Cup in Canada . Nayler remained without conceding a goal, while her teammates scored 30 goals in three games. On May 14, 2015, she was appointed to the squad for the 2015 World Cup . There she was used in all three preliminary round matches over 90 minutes and was named “Player of the Game” in the game against hosts Canada. The New Zealanders were eliminated after the preliminary round. She was also nominated for the 2016 Olympic Games.
At the games in Brazil , she retired after three games with New Zealand as the worst group third.
At the 2018 Oceania Women's Soccer Championship , she was used in three games and remained without conceding a goal. As tournament winners, the New Zealanders qualified for the 2019 World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games .
On April 29, she was nominated for the World Cup in France . In France she was used in the three games of her team, but they were eliminated after three defeats.
