Méline Gérard began playing club football as an eight-year-old in her birthplace, southwest of Paris . In 2000 she moved from FC Massy to AS Montigny-le-Bretonneux , where she played for the next seven years and where she also became a B youth international (see below) . It followed a year at the capital club Paris Saint-Germain FC , where she immediately advanced to the goalkeeper in the 2007/08 first division and, as a 17-year-old, played two thirds of the point games. Nevertheless, she then returned to AS Montigny, which at that time belonged to the second division. In 2009 she rose with the Ignymontaines - that's the name of the city's residents - in the top division; however, this episode only lasted one season. Gérard had only missed one competitive game in her two years there, and that's why the first division club AS Saint-Étienne secured their services in 2010 .

At Saint-Étienne, placed only in the middle of the table in the league, she finally won a national title at the end of her first season: in 2011, her womenship prevailed in the cup final against HSC Montpellier , where she saved two opposing penalties in the game - winning penalty shoot-out . Two years later she reached the final of the national cup again with ASSE , in which the opponents of Olympique Lyon, however, retained the upper hand.

After Saint-Étienne escaped relegation to Division 2 by a hair's breadth in the 2013/14 season , Méline Gérard accepted a contract offer for Olympique Lyons, initially with a term of three years. From this step to the "dream club of all players" she promised herself "further progress in her football development", although it was clear that she would only be number two behind the four years older Sarah Bouhaddi in France's series women champions . In fact, she only made seven competitive appearances in her first season at OL . Among them, however, was her first ever appearance in the Champions League , where she was able to keep her " box " clean in the 9-0 sixteenth-final victory over ACF Brescia . In addition, she won her first national championship and - albeit without a commitment in the final - her second title in the national cup competition, and in early 2015, surprisingly, she even became a national player (see below) . In the 2015/16 season she made a larger number of appearances - including twelve point games - because Lyon's budget number one, Sarah Bouhaddi, was out for months due to an operation. Then again only in the second line, she moved to runner-up Montpellier HSC in the summer of 2017 and to Betis Sevilla two years later .

National player

In 2006 Méline Gérard played two U-17, in 2007 and 2008 five U-19 internationals. With the older age group she took part in the European championship finals in her own country ; she was substituted on for Karima Benameur after 55 minutes in the group game against Italy , but could not prevent France's defeat. At the end of the same year, she guarded the French goal in four U-20 games; three of them were the final round matches at the U-20 World Cup in Chile . In this World Cup she came again due to an injury Karima Benameur sustained during the last group game, although she had to accept nine goals and the French finished fourth.

In 2012 she played her first international B match, followed by two more in 2014. In between, national trainer Bruno Bini had appointed her as a reservist in the French EM squad in 2013 . It was only under Bini's successor Philippe Bergeroo that she made her debut in France's national team , with whom she won 1-0 against the hosts at the Algarve Cup in March 2015 . Although only number two in the club, the coach nominated Méline Gérard, who is relatively short for a goalkeeper at 1.68 m, for his 23-man squad at the 2015 World Cup alongside her clubmates Sarah Bouhaddi and Céline Deville . In 2016 she was part of the French squad at the Olympic football tournament in Brazil , and in 2017 she was part of the European Championship squad . So far she has played 14 full internationals.
