Karima Benameur

Karima Benameur (born April 13, 1989 in Bédarieux ) is a French football player who plays in the position of goalkeeper .

Club career

Karima Benameur has played football for amateur clubs in her home region, the Orb Valley on the south-western slope of the Cevennes , since she was seven years old - first at Gallia Club Le Bousquet d'Orb , then for the Entente Orb-Gravezon and the USB Pays d ' Orb . In 2004, at the age of 15, she joined the youth department of HSC Montpellier , where she was able to present her skills on a slightly larger stage. Twelve months later she found acceptance at the Center technique national Fernand-Sastre , the French “talent factory”, and was part of the first division club CNFE Clairefontaine for the following two seasons .

In 2007 she signed the league rival Racing Saint-Étienne ; there she also became a national player (see below) . At the turn of the year 2008/2009 Benameur left the club and joined the second division club AF Rodez for the rest of the season , before guarding the goal of first division Toulouse FC from the 2009/10 season . After two years she returned to Rodez - now also a first division club - before, in the summer of 2012, Paris Saint-Germain FC , who want to make their women's team number one in France with considerable financial resources, brought Karima Benameur to the capital, where she the old international Bérangère Sapowicz is to replace in the gate. A year later, Benameur and PSG became runner-up behind the women from Olympique Lyon , who were still unrivaled for the time being, and qualified for the European championship competition for the first time - even though she has not yet become the undisputed regular goalkeeper . In the 2014/15 season , coach Farid Benstiti primarily relied on Katarzyna Kiedrzynek and Ann-Katrin Berger ; He only considered Benameur in one of the first 17 point games. In January, PSG agreed to terminate their contract early. However, she was not allowed to switch to a league competitor because of one deployment in the current season, which significantly reduced her chances of participating in the 2015 World Cup as the third goalkeeper . She therefore intended to challenge this rule in an ordinary court because of its incompatibility with the non-discrimination rule . At the end of February 2015, Benstiti Benameur came on in the game against Olympique Lyon after Kiedrzynek was injured.

In the 2015/16 season , she then joined the Juvisy FCF , which was absorbed by Paris FC in 2017 . From there she moved to the English first division club Manchester City in 2019 .

National player

Karima Benameur went through several national youth selection teams, played seven games with the U-17, 17 with the U-19 and five with the U-20. In 2008 she was part of the French U-20 squad at the World Cup in Chile , where she was between the posts in all three preliminary rounds, but then had to give up her place for the quarter and semi-finals due to injury.

In the senior national team she made her debut in October 2007 in a European Championship qualifier against Serbia , when national coach Bruno Bini replaced her 15 minutes before the end of the game when the score was 8-0. Nevertheless, almost four years passed before they were used for the second time. In 2013, coach Bini had included her in the French squad for the European Championship finals in Sweden and surprisingly gave her preference over the previous third goalkeeper Laëtitia Philippe ; however, it was not used there. In March 2016, she played two B internationals for France at the Istria Cup ; after that it looked like her international career was over.

In fact, it took a total of six and a quarter years until Karima Benameur received a call to the Bleues from national coach Corinne Diacre at the end of 2017 ; against Sweden , she guarded the French goal in her third international match - up to the end of her career there were five, the last one at the beginning of April 2018 - and kept it clean for over 90 minutes.
