The Hockeroda – Unterlemnitz (Sormitztalbahn) line is a branch line in Thuringia . There it connects to the Triptis – Marxgrün railway line, which is only operated in sections .

history

Haltpunkt Hockeroda (2018)

The line was built and operated by the Erfurt Railway Directorate of the Prussian State Railways. The basis was a Prussian law of June 6, 1905, the route was opened shortly after one another in two sections:

  • December 16, 1907: Hockeroda – Wurzbach (Thür), 19.43 km
  • March 1, 1908: Wurzbach (Thür) –Unterlemnitz, 8.84 km

In Unterlemnitz there was a connection to the existing railway line to Lobenstein , which continued via Blankenstein and Marxgrün to Hof .

After the transition to the Deutsche Reichsbahn, the line belonged to the RBD Erfurt.

The plan is to upgrade the line for a maximum speed of 60 km / h and to remove unsecured level crossings. So far, numerous slow-speed areas and damaged bridges have ensured long driving times. The establishment of a one-hour cycle was also proposed. Thanks to the considerable volume of freight traffic, there were no closure plans in 2009, but the future of passenger traffic has already been reviewed several times by the Thuringian state government.

In 2010, a large part of the track was upgraded with the superstructure. On August 22, 2010, a new electronic signal box (ESTW) was also put into operation. As a result, the form signals in Unterlemnitz and the light signals of the Soviet type EZMG in Leutenberg , Lichtentanne and Wurzbach have now also disappeared.

business

passenger traffic

Passenger traffic from Unterlemnitz continued to Lobenstein and mostly to Blankenstein.

After the dissolution of the GDR, locomotives of the 219 or 228 series and, more rarely, the 202 series were used in front of passenger trains .

After 2000, the route was mainly used by class 641 and class 642 railcars . From May 2005 to 2011, the Schiefergebirgsexpress ran on Saturdays in the summer months directly from Leipzig via Saalfeld to Blankenstein, after which the train was temporarily suspended. It has been offered by the Erfurter Bahn since summer 2013.

In June 2008, the stop in Heinersdorf was closed for structural reasons and due to low usage. From December 2011 the Zschachenmühle stop was also closed. The dilapidated bus shelter there was demolished in the summer of the same year.

Since 2009, passenger trains have been running every two hours, and more often during rush hour.

Train crossings are possible in Unterlemnitz, Leutenberg, Lichtentanne and Wurzbach; however, are scheduled to take place only during rush hour, when additional trains are running.

In June 2012, the Erfurt Railway took over passenger transport on the route.

Freight transport

There is a lot of freight traffic on the railway line. Possible compounds here are locomotives of the series 203 , 204 , 261 , 290 as well as several private rail locomotives entrepreneurs used. Mainly the pulp and paper factory Rosenthal in Blankenstein and several small businesses along the route are served. In addition, the section of the Oberlandbahn from Ebersdorf-Friesau to Unterlemnitz is used for freight traffic over the railway line in order to handle timber traffic to and from the Klausner Holz Thuringia plant. In addition to the vehicles mentioned above, class 232 locomotives are also used in front of heavy trains.
