Station building of the Hockeroda station (2018)

Hockeroda is a district of the municipality of Kaulsdorf in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

Hockeroda is on the Hockeroda – Unterlemnitz railway (Sormitztalbahn), which joins the Leipzig – Probstzella railway there . However, trains only stop on the route to Unterlemnitz; the regional trains on the Lichtenfels - Saalfeld (Saale) route pass the station without stopping. Hockeroda is located at the confluence of the Sormitz in the Loquitz , which in turn flows a few kilometers further north into the Saale flowing past Hockeroda to the east behind a wooded mountain range . To the left of the Saale and the following slopes, the transition from the southeast Thuringian slate mountains to the Thuringian Forest begins . Hockeroda is located at the confluence of federal highway 90 and federal highway 85 .

history

The first documentary mention of Hockeroda dates back to April 30, 1417.

A moated castle used to stand on the site of the former hammer mill. Remains of the fortifications can still be seen through trenches. It was probably a mansion. The place was until 1918 in the Leutenberg area of the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

Copper and silver were once extracted in Hockeroda , later iron ore , which is also reminiscent of the mining symbol “ mallets and iron ” on the front of the Hockeroda train station building (see illustration). Tourism has always played an important role.
