The village of Breternitz is located in the Thuringian Forest and has belonged to the municipality of Kaulsdorf since April 9, 1994 .

location

The place is about five kilometers as the crow flies southeast of the district town of Saalfeld / Saale in the area of the Saale loops in a flood-protected location. To the south and east of the location are the mountains Muckel ( 359 m above sea level ) and Mockel ( 359.1 m above sea level ). It is connected by a bridge to the neighboring town of Fischersdorf on the other side of the hall . A new housing estate on the outskirts was developed and built after 1995.

history

Breternitz was first mentioned in 1074. In addition to agriculture, fishing and copper mining also had a certain importance for the place. Most people work in the nearby town of Saalfeld or in Kaulsdorf. The place has a church and a breakpoint . The place was until 1918 in the Leutenberg area of the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

The Breternitz stop is on the Leipzig – Probstzella railway line . The village is also just over 1 km from the B 85 from Saalfeld in the direction of Kronach and on an international mountain hiking trail and cycling trail. There is also a bus connection from Fischersdorf to Saalfeld and Kaulsdorf.

Sports

There is the club SG Saaletal 51 with the divisions football (2 teams) and gymnastics . The first soccer team plays in the 1st district class . The annual cultural highlight is the fair that takes place in September. In particular, the now well-known evening show programs (designed by the members of the sports club and other interested parties) have become a major attraction over the past ten years.
