history

The first written mention was in 1379.

A castle stood on the site of the current palace to protect the passage across the hall. It was used to monitor and control the Loquitztal and the river of the same name where it flows into the Saale. Components on the castle date back to the 14th century. From 1400 the place was the seat of the Lords of Holbach. In 1417/18 the von Beulwitz gentlemen acquired the fortified complex and in 1696 rebuilt the property into a fortified castle. They were the owners until 1945. The place was until 1918 in the Leutenberg area of the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

Eichicht has belonged to the municipality of Kaulsdorf since July 1, 1950 and is located in a narrow valley directly on the Saale between the district town of Saalfeld and the Hohenwarte reservoir . The Saale cycle path runs along this route .

Culture and sights

In the center of the village are the Eichicht Castle and the traditional Eichichter Loquitzmühle (first documented mention in 1417). The castle was restored between 1920 and 1923 according to plans by Bodo Ebhardt . The Lohmturm, the Eichelberg and the Eichicht run-of-river power plant of the Hohenwarte reservoir are located near Eichicht . The Eisenach – Budapest hiking trail runs through the town in the Thuringian Slate Mountains . → See also Marienkirche (Eichicht)
