Harald Breternitz

Harald Breternitz (born January 3, 1954 ) is a former German soccer player. In Leipzig and the Thuringian region, he played second division football in GDR football in the 1970s and 1980s . From 1971 to 1972 he was a junior international .

Athletic career

As a player for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig, Harald Breternitz took part in the children's and youth spartakiad in 1968 in the Leipzig soccer student selection. As a center forward he scored the 1-0 winning goal against the Dresden selection in the final with a single effort. Then 1. FC Lok let him play in the junior league in the 1968/69 season at the early age of 14 . In the summer of 1971 Breternitz was appointed to the squad of the GDR junior national team. On June 30, 1971, he completed his first international junior game as a center forward in the encounter between the GDR and Finland (2-1). By April 1972 Breternitz played 17 junior internationals in which he scored two goals. Among other things, he was in the final at the youth competition of friendship in 1971, which the GDR lost 0-1 to Czechoslovakia. When Breternitz had outgrown the junior age, the 1. FC Lok put him from the 1972/73 season on in the 2nd team, which played in the second-rate GDR league. By October 1974 he came in 48 possible appearances on 32 league games, scoring five goals.

In November 1974 Breternitz was drafted into the National People's Army for 18 months . He was given the opportunity to continue playing football in the GDR league with the ASG Vorwärts Dessau army sports association . Breternitz was only used on the 1st, 3rd and 4th matchdays, but only for a total of 135 minutes. After the end of his military service, Breternitz joined the company sports community (BSG) Motor Suhl . The Suhler also played in the GDR league, and Breternitz was used from November 1976 to April 1977 as a central midfielder in ten point games (one goal). For the 1977/78 season he registered with the GDR league club BSG Motor Nordhausen . There Breternitz stayed for two seasons, in which he was mainly used in 44 league games 42 times in the central midfield. After a long time with few goals, Breternitz scored three goals in 1978/79. In the summer of 1979 Breternitz made another change and went to the third-rate district division Motor Steinach . He immediately helped his new team advance to the GDR league. The Steinacher, former league team, were in the elevator rhythm during these years. In the 1980/81 season, in which Breternitz was converted to the right striker, played 16 league games and scored four goals, the team rose again after a year in the district league. Once again, Breternitz helped BSG Motor to regain its position immediately, but in 1982/83 only played a point game. Then Motor Steinach got down again.

At the age of 29, the former junior national player Harald Breternitz ended his career as a football player in the performance area. Within nine GDR league seasons in which he had played for five different teams, he had come to 104 league games with 13 goals.
