The Kojetín – Tovačov railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated by the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) as the Kojetein – Tobitschau local line. The route, which today only serves freight traffic, runs from Kojetín ( Kojetein ) to Tovačov ( Tobitschau ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The license for the Kojetein – Tobitschau local railway was awarded to the KFNB on July 23, 1889. Part of the license was the obligation to complete the line within a year and a half and to “hand it over to public transport ”. The license was issued until December 31, 1975. The line was opened on October 1, 1895 for tourist traffic and on November 18, 1895 for freight traffic. The KFNB carried out the operation itself.

After the nationalization of the KFNB on January 1, 1906, the line belonged to the network of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). From January 1, 1907, the kkStB also took over the management. In 1912, the local railway timetable showed five mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. It took them about half an hour to cover the eleven kilometers.

After the First World War, the line came to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

In the mid-1930s, the use of modern motor trains resulted in both a significant compression of the timetable and a clear reduction in travel times. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded nine pairs of 3rd class passenger trains, seven of which were motorized trains.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On May 30, 1981, the tourist traffic was stopped in favor of a bus route. Since then, the route has only been used for freight traffic.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

Today the route is also used on certain dates for special trips with historical vehicles. The organizer of these trips is the “Kromeřížská dráha os” association based in Bystřice pod Hostýnem.
