Swell:

The Lauterbourg – Wissembourg railway was opened on June 29, 1900 by the Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine . Operations began on July 1 of the same year. It ran almost exactly parallel to today's German-French border, at that time the border between the Bavarian Palatinate and the realm of Alsace-Lorraine , and connected the two main lines Wörth – Strasbourg and Neustadt – Winden – Weissenburg (–Strasbourg) .

In the first few years, the timetable included six journeys in each direction, which served as a mixed train (freight train with passenger transport, GmP) for both passenger and freight transport.

On October 1, 1947, the line was closed to passenger traffic, the Scheibenhard – Wissembourg section continued to be used for freight traffic (starch and oil) until 1958. The Lauterbourg – Lauterbourg Nord section was de-dedicated on November 12, 1954, followed by Scheibenhard – Lauterbourg Nord on December 7, 1965 and Wissembourg – Scheibenhard on October 29, 1970.

Since 1992 the route has been part of the Franco-German Lautertal cycle path , which leads from Lauterbourg via Wissembourg to Dahn .
