The Neustadt (Aisch) –Bad Windsheim line is a branch line in Bavaria . It branches off the Nuremberg – Würzburg railway line in Neustadt (Aisch) Bahnhof and heads west through the upper Aischgrund to Bad Windsheim , where it joins the Steinach (b Rothenburg od Tauber) –Bad Windsheim railway line .
history
The Bavarian State Railroad opened operations on August 6, 1876 as far as the former imperial city of Windsheim . The extension to Steinach followed - over two decades later - on August 1, 1898.
In the transport association for the greater Nuremberg area , it is referred to as the R81 regional train line. The regional rail services on the route were put out to tender in 2005 by the Bavarian Railway Company as part of the " Nuremberg Diesel Network " for 10 years. Since December 14, 2008, this route has been operated under the name “Mittelfrankenbahn” with new multiple units of the 648 series every hour, but at the end of 2018, the previously used series 642 was switched back to. The operation is carried out by DB Regio Franken .
The trains cross at Bad Windsheim station, which is equipped with fallback switches .
