history

Share of more than 1,000 marks in the Oschersleben-Schöningen Railway Company on January 1, 1900
Share over 1000 marks in the Braunschweig-Schöninger Eisenbahn-AG from February 27, 1901

The Oschersleben-Schöninger Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (OSE) opened passenger traffic on the 24 km long, standard-gauge railway line on December 20, 1899. This came from the former district town of Oschersleben (Bode) in today's district of Börde in Saxony-Anhalt, which at that time belonged to the Prussian province of Saxony. It led in a north-westerly direction to the Lower Saxon town of Schöningen , which was then in the Duchy of Braunschweig. Freight trains had been running since November 2, 1899. In 1895, corresponding state treaties between Prussia and Braunschweig were concluded, whereupon the concession was granted by both countries.

The majority of the shares were initially in the hands of the West German Railway Company and in 1928 it was transferred to the AG for Transport . Therefore, their daughters also ran the business; Initially the company Lenz & Co. , from 1915 the Braunschweig-Schöninger Eisenbahn -Actien-Gesellschaft, with which there was a direct track connection in Schöningen, which at times also led to continuous trains from Braunschweig to Oschersleben.

The Allgemeine Deutsche Eisenbahn-Betriebs-GmbH (ADEG) began operating on April 1, 1932 , until the railway, which was mainly located in the Soviet zone, was handed over to the Sächsische Provinzbahnen GmbH in 1947. From there it came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn on January 1, 1950 , which maintained traffic until December 22, 1969. The entire tracks were dismantled. The Hötensleben – Schöningen section had been permanently interrupted since the end of the war in 1945 because of the demarcation and was dismantled on the western side soon after 1945.

Due to the lignite mining in Offleben, there was brisk freight traffic. There were direct trains to Braunschweig via the Braunschweig-Schöningen Railway, with which the Schöningen Süd station was shared.

In passenger traffic there were usually around five trains on weekdays, correspondingly fewer on Sundays. Additional trains ran between Hötensleben and Schöningen. Even after the boundary was drawn, five trains ran on the remaining stretch.
