The Sensburg – Rudczanny / Niedersee railway was the end section of a railway line that led from Rothfließ ( Czerwonka in Polish ) to Rudczanny (1938 to 1945 Niedersee , Ruciane in Polish , now in Ruciane-Nida ).

history

The route was built in 1898 and was supposed to connect Königsberg (Prussia) ( Russian Kaliningrad ) via Zinten (Russian Kornewo ) and Heilsberg (Polish Lidzbark Warmiński ) with the Masurian Lake District . The Sensburg – Rudczanny section was opened on July 1, 1898. The section from Mrągowo to the east, which today belongs to the Czerwonka – Ełk railway , was not opened until 1911.

The railway line from Sensburg to Rudczanny already connected the two at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Century interesting cities and their lake landscapes over a length of 33.1 kilometers (67.2 kilometers in total) with each other. In Rudczanny she met the Olsztyn – Lyck railway line , which also strengthened tourist traffic to Johannisburg ( Pisz in Polish ).

The railway line from Rothfließ to Rudczanny, which opened in 1898, was closed in the section from Sensburg in 1945 as a result of the war and largely dismantled.
