Marco Mendorf
Marco Mendorf (born May 12, 1975 in Düsseldorf ) is a German politician of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and was its federal manager from November 2017 to December 2019 . Since February 1, 2020, Mendorf has been Head of Events and Public Relations in the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal level .
Education and professional career
After attending school in Velbert and doing community service in the area of individual care for the severely disabled, Mendorf studied at the University of Cologne with a degree in economics .
From 2008 to 2012 Mendorf worked for the Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft (INSM), initially in Cologne and from 2010 to 2012 in Berlin . At INSM he was responsible for campaigns and headed the Public Affairs department. For many years he was a freelance seminar leader in political education a. a. active for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom .
Political party
From 2004 to 2008 Mendorf was the deputy general manager and press spokesman for the FDP regional association of North Rhine-Westphalia in Düsseldorf . From August 2012 to October 2017 he worked as political manager of the FDP parliamentary group in the Düsseldorf state parliament . In this function he coordinated the political work of the parliamentary group and assisted the parliamentary group leader Christian Lindner .
Mendorf became a member of the Young Liberals in 1990 . From 1991 to 1996 he was district chairman of the Young Liberals in Mettmann . From 1994 to 1997 he was a member of the state board of North Rhine-Westphalia, in 1998 ombudsman of the federal association and in 1999 deputy federal chairman and press spokesman for the Young Liberals.
Mendorf has been a member of the FDP since 1991. He was a member of the Mettmann District Executive and the Düsseldorf District Executive. From 1998 to 2010 he was a member of the Cologne Liberals and between 1999 and 2004 he was youth policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group in the Cologne City Council. From 2001 to 2009 Mendorf was a member of the district board of the Cologne FDP, since 2003 its deputy chairman. In 2002 he ran for the federal election in the constituency of Cologne-Innenstadt Nord, Deutz, Kalk and Porz .
In 2004 he ran for the first time for the Council of the City of Cologne and after the election took over the function of the economic policy spokesman for the parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the Economic Committee of the City of Cologne. In the local elections in 2009 he was re-elected to the Cologne City Council, but gave up the mandate at the end of 2009 after moving to Berlin. Since 2012 he has been chairman of the FDP local association Schwalmtal , deputy chairman of the district association Viersen and a member of the FDP regional executive committee Niederrhein.
Mendorfs predecessor Marco Buschmann was in the federal election in 2017 in the elected parliament , and since September First Parliamentary Secretary . As federal managing director of the FDP, Mendorf had been a member of the FDP federal executive committee since 2017 . Mendorf resigned his office as Federal Managing Director on December 31, 2019 for personal reasons, as the party announced in October 2019. He was succeeded by Michael Zimmermann , who was previously managing director of the FDP parliamentary group in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament, on January 1, 2020.
Private
Marco Mendorf is married, has three children and lives in Petershagen in Brandenburg .
