The Tabanovci – Gevgelija line is the main line of the North Macedonian Railway . It leads from the Serbian border at Tabanovci via Kumanovo , Skopje and Veles to the Greek border at Gevgelija .

Traffic geography

The track is part of the International Association of Central Europe by Athens and a portion of Corridor X .

history

The section south of Skopje is part of the first line, opened in 1874 and built in what is now North Macedonia, from Thessaloniki to Kosovska Mitrovica . She built the Chemins de fer Orientaux (CO). At that time the area still belonged to the Ottoman Empire . The section north of Skopje was added as a connection from there to Belgrade in 1888.

Technical parameters

The line is electrified with the traction current system 25 kV 50 Hz alternating current, but is single-track . The maximum permissible speed is 100 km / h. The largest slope with 17 ‰ is on a ramp between Kumanovo and Romanovce. The route Tabanovci-Gevgelija is the only one in the network of railways nordmazedonischen whose traffic remotely backed up is an automatic train protection and is on it.

Cross-border passenger traffic on the route is poor. After several years of interruption in rail traffic with Greece, an international train, the Hellas Express , has been using the route between Thessaloniki and Belgrade since May 10, 2014 , but it only runs in the summer months.

Regional transport which sets železnici na Republika Sewerna Makedonia Transport (ŽRSMT) in the timetable for 2020 between Skopje and Veles nine pairs of trains , of which two further Gevgelija , three on the branch line Veles-Kremenica to Bitola and a pair of trains on the route Veles-Kočani more to Kočani . Four pairs of trains run daily between Skopje and Tabanovci.
