BahnTouristikExpress GmbH (BTE) is a German rail transport company based in Nuremberg and has its own rail vehicles, buildings and track systems at Nuremberg Central Station .

The main business is the offer and implementation of special train and car train journeys in Germany and neighboring countries as well as the independent operation of 2 Flixtrain lines. BTE rents locomotives and wagons and is active in long-distance passenger rail transport (SPFV).

In addition to the implementation of special trips, BTE is also actively involved in regular regional rail transport and is one of the few private providers in Germany.

Operation of the HKX and its successor Flixtrain

Since September 2015, BTE has rented ten passenger coaches, one half-baggage coach and other coaches as a reserve to Hamburg-Köln-Express GmbH (HKX). With the 2015/2016 timetable change, the company also took on the role of rail transport company (EVU) for HKX. The HKX successor train Flixtrain was also operated by BTE. In April 2020, however, there were disagreements over new contract negotiations between Flixtrain and BTE, so the partnership was ended.

BTE AutoTravelTrain

In mid-April 2016, the company announced that it would start a night-time car train connection between Hamburg-Altona and Lörrach (in both directions) from December 16, 2016 . This connection, which replaces the former DB Autozug Hamburg-Lörrach, runs one to four times a week and is marketed as the “BTE AutoReiseZug”. The train consists of the sleeping car , couchette , car passenger cars , a dining car , and a company car . The train paths for this have been registered with DB Netz . Depending on the season, the connection is offered one to four times a week. For the first trip on December 16, 2016 from Hamburg to Lörrach, the “BTE AutoReiseZug” transported around 40 vehicles with 80 people.

A motorail train should reduce the cost of petrol for the car and enable a relaxed journey or open up a vacation. To take this into account, the train has both a train restaurant (dining car) and a bistro (in the party car).

ALPEN-SYLT night express

Since July 4, 2020, BTE has been operating the "ALPEN-SYLT Night Express" together with RDC. It runs directly between Sylt and Salzburg on Thursdays and Saturdays , and in the opposite direction on Fridays and Sundays. The connection was initially planned until September 7, 2020, but due to the high demand, the offer was extended until November 2, 2020.

history

The company was created on April 4, 2004 from the merger of BahnTouristikBamberg GbR and Bahnouristik Schiedermeier, Regensburg. The company is registered under HRB 22504 at the Nuremberg District Court. At the time of the merger, the managing partners were Christian Gloël, Matthias Wolf and Tobias Schiedermeier. On March 30, 2006 Christian Gloël resigned as managing director. Eight passenger cars were purchased in the year it was founded. In 2010 a turnover of 3.2 million euros was achieved.

In 2016, when the BTE AutoReiseZug went into operation, the Railroad Development Corporation (RDC), which is also the majority shareholder of HKX in Germany, took an indirect stake in the company through BTE Beteiligungs GmbH.
