Parish Church of St. Leonhard

Baiershofen is a parish village and part of the Altenmünster community in the Swabian district of Augsburg in Bavaria ( Germany ).

The district road A 21 leads from the GZ 22 (district border near Rechbergreuthen ) via Baiershofen to Altenmünster .

history

The place emerged as a clearing settlement in the first half of the 14th century under the direction of the Fultenbach monastery , which in 1350 reorganized the fiefdoms in the village. On each side of the west-east facing Anger there are around 25 old properties, the houses of which are gable-roofed and stand towards the Anger and mostly still show their rural character today (see also: Ensemble Baiershofen ).

In the middle of the stripe with the fruit and nut trees stands the parish church of St. Leonhard , surrounded by the cemetery. The place grew only a little beyond the old settlement.

From 1862 to 1929 the independent municipality of Baiershofen belonged to the district office of Zusmarshausen and from 1929 to the district office of Wertingen , which from 1939 was then referred to as the district of Wertingen . As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Baiershofen was added to the Augsburg district on July 1, 1972 (initially called the Augsburg-West district ). On May 1, 1978 it was incorporated into the Altenmünster community.

The parish of St. Leonhard belongs to the parish community Altenmünster / Violau in the deanery Augsburg-Land in the diocese of Augsburg .

In 1975 Dieter Wieland shot the documentary Baiershofen - a village in Swabia in the Topography series .
