history

Little is known from the time before the town was founded in 1327. From this time only the gentlemen of Stuhlen (Stuelen) are named in the documents from the years 1280, 1284, 1299, 1300 and 1315 as co-sealers of documents. In the documents of 1283 and 1300 they are called "nobles of Stuel". In a document from 1280 a "Hermann von Stuolen" is reported as a priest of the St. Ulrich monastery in Augsburg . These gentlemen of chairs were sitting on the Stuhlenberg, east of the present Stuhlenmühle. At that time there was a castle with a stable .

Before the clearing for the foundation of Unterschöneberg began between 1320 and 1325, there was an extensive forest that belonged to the Lords of Welden and was in the Austrian margraviate of Burgau . The clearing of the forest was carried out under the clearing master "Hainrichen von Schöneberch".

The fiefs were distributed in 1327. Two important documents, a contract letter and the village letter dated October 31, 1327, are available from this time. When one wanted to approach the distribution of the fiefs, it was found that the available area was not sufficient. With the contract letter dated January 21, 1327, Ulrich von Welden agreed with the Oberschönenfeld monastery that 60  Jauchert (1 Jauchert = 0.5 ha) from Violau should be included in the distribution in order to be able to distribute a total of 12 fiefs with 51 Jauchert each.

The Lords of Welden exercised the lordship rights over Unterschöneberg until 1597. Then the manorial rule passed to a branch line of the Fuggers . This line died out in 1764 and the manorial rights reverted to the Margraviate of Burgau. They stayed there until secularization . As a result of the secularization from 1803, Unterschöneberg became an independent municipality.

From 1862 to 1929, Unterschöneberg belonged to the district office of Zusmarshausen and from 1929 to the district office of Wertingen , which from 1939 was called the district of Wertingen .

On May 1, 1978, as part of the regional reform, the municipality was incorporated into Altenmünster. In February 2007, Unterschöneberg had 417 inhabitants. Unterschönenberg belongs to the parish community Altenmünster-Violau.

coat of arms

The earlier community coat of arms of Unterschöneberg describes a falling tree with an ax (Rodesiedlung), with part of the coat of arms of the Welden rule in the early documented design green-silver-green.

Townscape

The characteristic layout of the clearing settlement as a street village with double, gable-independent row of houses characterizes the townscape of Unterschöneberg. The expansion takes place in an east-west direction around 650 meters. The former avenue rises from both sides, the church at the highest point east of the town center. The neighboring towns of Neumünster and Baiershofen are also a street or anger village.

Colonel sergeant Johann Lambert Kolleffel hand-drawn the local plans for the Margraviate of Burgau between 1749 and 1753. The original plans are in the war archive in Vienna. The scale is given in steps (1 step equals 0.9375 m or 2.5 shoe). One shoe equals 0.375 m. 8,000 paces are a “German mile” or 7,500 meters. The scale of these plans corresponds roughly to today's scale 1: 5000.

St. George Church

Attractions

The Catholic branch church St. Georg on Bergstrasse is an early Baroque building from around 1620, which was built in connection with the neighboring pilgrimage church St. Michael in Violau. In 1960 the church roof was renewed, followed in 1978 by a complete interior and exterior renovation. In 1984 the new people's altar was erected. In 2000 there was an exterior renovation, renewal of the roof structure and a new coat of paint, as well as a renewal of the staircase in 2001.
