Baixo Alentejo (Province)

Baixo Alentejo ( Portuguese for Lower Beyond the Tagus ) was one of the eleven provinces of Portugal from 1936 to 1976 . Today they only exist in colloquial language or in historically based terms.

Beja was the capital of the province. It comprised the area of ​​today 's Beja district and the southern half of today 's Setúbal district .

In today's administrative division of Portugal, the term Baixo Alentejo only refers to the statistical sub-region of Baixo Alentejo .
