Baixo Alentejo (Province)
Baixo Alentejo ( Portuguese for Lower Beyond the Tagus ) was one of the eleven provinces of Portugal from 1936 to 1976 . Today they only exist in colloquial language or in historically based terms.
Beja was the capital of the province. It comprised the area of today 's Beja district and the southern half of today 's Setúbal district .
In today's administrative division of Portugal, the term Baixo Alentejo only refers to the statistical sub-region of Baixo Alentejo .
