Baldwin gardener

Balduin Gärtner (born November 6, 1859 in Rödigen ; † February 3, 1954 in Altenburg ) was a German teacher, local poet and folklorist .

Life

Gärtner attended the teachers' seminar in Altenburg from 1874 to 1878 and then worked as a teacher in Schmölln . From 1882 until 1924 he taught at the Frauenfelsschule in Altenburg. Gardener was appointed senior teacher .

Gärtner worked as a poet and writer under various pseudonyms such as "Daneels Kleenner" and "Daniel Balder", and as a newspaper reporter in Altenburg . His poems and articles about local history were printed in the daily press. Gardener wrote a. a. Articles about Oberlödla , lung disease , smuggling in the Bohemian Forest , war episodes, the foundation assets of the city of Altenburg, changes of lease and ownership, the timber business on the Saale , farmers' families in Schlauditz , reports on the construction of toboggan runs on the Zschernitzscher Berg, in Unterlödla , at the observatory and in the Herzog-Ernst-Wald Altenburg, as well as articles in the ornithological monthly of the German Association for the Protection of the Bird World and also in its newspaper Die Vogelwelt . In 1908 he published the book of verses Das Zwillingspaar Hedi and Fredi, illustrated by Jenny Thieme, in Stephan Geibel Verlag .

He was one of the main initiators of the establishment of the DÖAV section Sachsen-Altenburg, of which he was 1st chairman from 1932 to 1933. In 1911 he published the hiking book 100 Sketches for Hikes in Altenburg's Surroundings at Verlag Oskar Bonde . In 1914 he was commissioned by the publisher to edit this traveling book because it was quickly sold out, but was only able to comply with this request after the First World War . It was published in 1924 under the title Altenburger Wanderbuch. 20 excursions and 100 sketches for hikes and walks in Altenburg's surroundings .

In 1925 Gärtner was one of the founders of the German Radio Technology Association , the first national German amateur radio association . After the club was banned after the Second World War , he took part in efforts to re-admit the Alpine Club in Thuringia and Saxony in mid-1948 .

Gärtner's estate is in the Thuringia State Archives . The estate includes a. a collection of proverbs in Altenburg dialect, counting rhymes and verses for children, descriptions of children's games and entertainment games, descriptions of customs and manners in the Pleißengau and Osterland .

His genealogical research results were published posthumously in 1958 as an article entitled Meine Anfahren in the Altenburg home calendar. In 2000, in the commemorative publication for the 750th anniversary of the city of Altenburg, the municipal traffic office published, among other things, the article Alt-Altenburg which he wrote during his lifetime .
