history

During leveling work northeast of the place in the direction of Rositz, a Neolithic grave was found, which is around 4000 years old. At the same location, remains of vessels from the 6th and 5th centuries BC were found.

Unterlödla was first mentioned in a document - as "inferiori Lidelowe" - in a document dated July 3, 1277 by Altenburg Burgrave Albrecht III , both Lödla places belonged to the feudal lordship of the Burgraves of Altenburg . Through targeted land acquisitions by the Buch bei Leisnig monastery, this monastery in Unterlödla received land ownership of seven Hufen, and from 1291 there was a farm yard of the monastery, which burned down in 1501. The Altenburg Maria Magdalenen Monastery owned land in Unterlödla in the form of gardens and fields, which were also given to the Buch monastery in 1300. The Teutonic Order was represented in the Altenburg area by numerous property and income, the Altenburg knights of the order exchanged ownership and rights of the Altenburg order house in Unterlödla with the monastery Buch, which now owned most of Unterlödla, with the consent of the Landkomthur Gottfried von Körner of the Thuringian Order Balllei .

The management of the monastery property in the village has been carried out since the 15th century by the von Dannenheim family, who used the former monastery courtyard as an estate. The courtyard was destroyed by fire in 1501. The aristocratic family gave up the estate, and the monastery administration sold the property to a wealthy farmer from Dobitschen the following year . With the approval of Abbot Anthonius, the estate was divided. After the Reformation and the secularization of the Buch monastery, both manors came back into the hands of the landed aristocrats in 1596; through frequent changes of ownership with renovations and repairs, both estates have been preserved to the present day. A car dealership was built on the property. With the parish of Unterlödla in the Oberlödla parish in 1697, the church of St. Mary in Oberlödla was significantly rebuilt in 1698 and thus received its current baroque appearance.

Since the 16th century Unterlödla belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which, due to several divisions during its existence, was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Unterlödla belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900).

Since 1918 Unterlödla had been in the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the place was assigned to the Altenburg district. On July 1, 1950, Unterlödla and Oberlödla merged to form the municipality of Lödla.
