from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Balthasar von der Goltz (* April 25, 1610 ; † February 14, 1688 ) was a Brandenburg colonel , court marshal and governor of Neidenburg and Soldau .

His parents were Baron Arnold von der Goltz (* February 14, 1570; † 1630) on Reppow and his wife Elisabeth Dorothea von Elditten (* April 12, 1583; † May 8, 1626).

Since August 1656 Goltz was adjutant general in the general staff of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm . In June 1658, Goltz traveled to Buck Field Marshal Raimondo Montecuccoli on behalf of the Elector to inform him of the movements and intentions of the Swedish army. At the same time he negotiated with Montecuccoli about provisions and quarters and inquired about the strength of the Polish army. In October 1659, after the death of Georg Heinrich von Wallenrodt, he became the chief of a Kurbrandenburg cuirassier and dragoon regiment that were deployed during the fighting between Sweden and Poland . However, since the two regiments did more harm than good, they were soon disbanded. From 1659 until his death he was the governor of Neidenburg and Soldau . In East Prussia he acquired the goods Plutwinnen , Heinrichau, Leißienen and Sortlack. From around 1680 Goltz was tenant of the iron works Kutzburg, Malga and Waldpusch in the Neidenburg district. After his death, his widow continued the business of the iron works.
