Balyktschy ( Kyrgyz Балыкчы ) is a city in Kyrgyzstan . It is located in the Issyk Kul region .

history
The city's beginnings go back to 1871 when a small postal settlement was founded on the road from Bishkek to Karakol . With the development of fishing, the place called Batschino continued to grow. It was named Rybachye and in 1954 it was granted city rights. In 1989 it was renamed Issykköl . In 1991 the city finally got its current name.
economy
Balyktschy is a port city for the not insignificant shipping traffic and fishing on the lake in Soviet times, accordingly ship and boat building once played an important role. Other branches of industry included the wool and food industries. Today all of them are only of secondary importance.

Balyktschy is the starting and ending point of the national road A 363, which runs from Balyktschy in the west along the north bank of Lake Issyk Kul to Karakol in the east and then along the south bank back to Balikky.
Balyktschy is the end point of the single-track railway line Bishkek - Balyktschy .
The small Issyk-Kul International Airport ( IATA airport code : IKU (ИКУ), ICAO code : UCFL) , established in 2003, is located about 40 km east of the city near the village of Tanchy or halfway to Cholponata . It has no instrument landing system and is only operational during the day.
Culture
Balyktschy houses a museum in honor of the geographer Pyotr Petrovich Semyonov-Tjan-Shansky .
