Balysch Owesowitsch Owesow (also Balysh Ovezov written; Russian Балыш Овезович Овезов , Turkmen Balys Öwezow ; born December 16 . Jul / 29. December  1915 greg. In Bedekent at Taschaus , Russian empire ; † 1. October 1975 in Ashkhabad , Turkmen SSR ) was a Soviet - Turkmen politician. From 1960 to 1969 he was general secretary of the communist party of the Turkmen SSR .

Life

Owesow was born in 1915 in the village of Bedekent near Tashaus , in what is now Turkmenistan (at that time still part of the Russian Empire ). He was orphaned at an early age and graduated from the higher party school of the Central Committee and the Pedagogical Institute in Ashgabat . Owesow initially worked as a teacher and also worked for the Komsomol , the Soviet youth organization. He took over numerous activities in the communist party and rose in its hierarchy more and more.

In 1960 Owesow was finally appointed general secretary of the communist party in the Turkmen SSR , so was de facto head of government of this union republic . He held this office until 1969 and was one of the few Soviet politicians to achieve a certain popularity among the people. During his tenure he was awarded the Badge of Honor of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin .

His successor was Muchamednasar Gapurow . In addition, Owesow was active in the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1961 to 1971 .

Private

Like many Soviet citizens, Owesov lived in an international family, his wife was a Uzbek . He had six children. In 1975 he died in Ashkhabad at the age of only 59 . His son Batyr Owesow , born in 1939, was a scientist and professor in Moscow and a member of the Turkmen Academy of Sciences.
