The BM Strupp bank was a private credit institute in Meiningen .

history

The BM Strupp banking house was founded in Meiningen in 1742, at that time the capital and residence of Saxony-Meiningen . The bank was initially a division of the company BM Strupp that the family Strupp in 1715 Dreißigacker founded with the name "IM Strupp". The company traded in grain and junk goods and was renamed BM Strupp in 1740. It was based in Meininger Metzengasse and from 1833 in the newly built Jewish department store on Bernhardstraße.

The Strupps set up the first branches outside of Meiningen in Ruhla , Gotha , Hildburghausen and Salzungen , later more were added in what is now the Thuringian region. The bank was one of the co-founders of the Werra Railway Company and was involved in the founding of the Mitteldeutsche Creditbank in 1856 and the Deutsche Hypothekenbank Meiningen in 1862.

The banker BM Strupp opened the first bank branch in Ruhla on October 15, 1863. This happened mainly at the instigation of the trading house Joh. Chr. Dreiß. The bank was housed in house no. 76 on the Erbstrombrücke (later the Eppelin bookstore).

From 1862 the company BM Strupp was exclusively active in the banking business under the management of Mayer Strupp and from 1873 was managed by his son and banker Gustav Strupp. The parent company in Meiningen was managed by his brother Meinhold Strupp, while the branch in Gotha was managed by his brother Louis Strupp. He was also chairman of the board of directors of Gothaer Waggonfabrik . The bank had its own health and pension insurance and had several foundations (→ Gustav Strupp ). A little later, the bank moved to the Könitzsche Palais, also at Bernhardstrasse 4.

The main areas of business at the end of the 19th century were the Strupp group , which was active in the porcelain industry , as well as breweries, iron factories and textile companies. Furthermore, the bank was in charge of the salt pans and the brine bath in Salzungen. Gustav Strupp and his brothers Meinhard and Louis converted the BM Strupp bank into the Aktiengesellschaft Bank für Thüringen on October 18, 1905 . In 1940 the National Socialists deleted the bank from the commercial register .
