In 1815, Louis-Auguste Petitmaître founded the first private bank in Neuchâtel at the age of 18 , although the city only had about 4,000 inhabitants at the time. In 1992, Jean Berthoud and a group of shareholders buy back the bank: Jean Berthoud takes over management of the company and takes a member of the Bonhôte family back to the board. Jean Berthoud himself comes from a family that has existed since the 18th century. In 2017, Bank Bonhôte had around 100 employees, 4 to 5 of whom were seconded to each of its branches in French-speaking Switzerland. At the end of the 1990s, the board of directors of Bank Bonhôte included the former FDP MP Yann Richter and the former chairman of the Swiss National Bank , Jean Zwahlen, who was also a board member of BNP Paribas Suisse and Union Bancaire Privée , among its members.
