The Baralacha La (also Paralatse La ) is a mountain pass in the Lahaul and Spiti district of the state of Himachal Pradesh in northwest India .
It separates the headwaters of the Bhaga and Chandra , which after their confluence in Tandi near Keylong flow as Chandrabhaga ( Chanab ) in a south-westerly direction to the Indus from the headwaters of the Yunan , which flows northwards to the Indus via the Tsarap , Lungnak and Zanskar .
The southern, 4940-meter-high pass that can only be crossed on foot, about 3 kilometers south of the Manali-Leh Highway , separates the Yunan and Chandra valleys, while the northern pass, used by the Manali-Leh Highway, is 4890 meters high Yunan and Bhaga valleys. Due to the altitude, it can only be used seasonally (May to September) to a limited extent; the southern pass is used in the months of July to September as a direct connection between Ladakh or Zanskar and the hospital .
