The Chandra is the left headwaters of the Chandrabhaga ( Chanab ) in the north of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh .

The Chandra flows through the districts of Lahaul and Spiti in the western Himalayas . The river arises south of the Baralacha La pass at an altitude of over 5000 m. It is fed by several glaciers . The Chandra River initially flows southeast. The Gramphu-Batal-Kaza road meets the river south below the Kunzum pass from the Spiti river valley and follows it for a distance of 50 km. The river turns in a sharp arc to the east. The lower 45 km of the Manali-Leh Highway follows the lower reaches of the Chandra. This reaches the Chandra Valley north of the Rohtang Pass from the south. The trunk road crosses the river between Khoksar (on the south bank) and Damphug (on the north bank). The Pir Panjal mountain range runs south of the lower reaches. The Chandra finally unites at Tandi 5.5 km west of Keylong with the Bhaga to Chandrabhaga. The Chandra River has a length of about 150 km.
