Baramulla (also Baramula ; Urdu بارہ مولہ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the northwest of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
It forms the administrative seat of the district of the same name . In the 2011 census, the population was 58,053, with suburbs 71,434.
The city of Baramulla is located in the north-western part of the Kashmir Valley on the banks of the Jhelam at an altitude of 1586 m . The Pir Panjal ridge rises to the west of Baramulla . To the provincial capital Srinagar , 45 km east-southeast of Baramulla, there is a railway line in addition to the National Highway 1A .
