Barbara Eck

Barbara Eck (born May 6, 1968 in Wagna ) is a former Austrian judoka .

Career

The 1.61 m tall corner fought for the judo club ASKÖ Graz . Until 1987 she fought in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 48 kilograms. In 1985 she won her first national title in this weight class . In 1986 she took third place with the Austrian team at the European Team Championship . In 1989 Eck was Austrian champion in the half-light weight category, up to 52 kilograms. At the end of 1989 she then switched to lightweight, the weight class up to 56 kilograms. In this weight class she won a total of four national championship titles: 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1994. In February 1992, she achieved her only World Cup victory at the World Masters in Munich. Three months later, she finished seventh at the 1992 European Championships in Paris. At the Olympic premiere of women's judo at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona she defeated the German Gudrun Hausch after 2:05 minutes , in her second fight she was defeated by the British Nicola Fairbrother with a coca rating. In the hope round she was eliminated in the first fight against the French Catherine Arnaud by referee decision.

She later headed the judo section at the Association for Health, Sport and Leisure Activities .
