Barbara Hans (* 27. April 1981 in Hamm ) is a German online - journalist . She has been the editor-in-chief of Spiegel Online since December 6, 2016 .

Life

Hans grew up in Hamm and graduated from high school there in 2000. She then began studying communication science , political science and applied cultural science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , which she completed in 2007 as a Magistra Artium . From 2003 to 2004 she completed a degree in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Sussex , which she completed with a Master of Arts .

In addition to her studies, she worked as a freelancer for Spiegel Online from 2005 . From September 2007 to September 2008 she completed an internship at Spiegel Online and Spiegel . In January she was hired as an editor in the Panorama department . In addition, from 2009 to 2011, Hans worked as a research assistant at the Department of Journalism and Communication Studies at Siegfried Weischenberg at the University of Hamburg . She has been a lecturer there since then . She also works as a lecturer at the Academy of Journalism and as an Academic Fellow at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism , New York . In 2015 she received her doctorate from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Department of Social Sciences, University of Hamburg .

From April 2011 Hans was Head of Panorama and from February 2014 Deputy Editor-in-Chief. On December 6, 2016, she was appointed editor-in-chief of Spiegel Online to succeed Florian Harms .
