Florian Harms

Florian Harms (* 1973 in Stuttgart ) is a German journalist and non-fiction author. He has been editor-in-chief of t-online.de since 2017 . Before that, he was at Spiegel Online from 2004 and its editor-in-chief from January 2015 to December 2016.

Life

Harms was born in 1973 in Stuttgart as the son of the publicist Klaus B. Harms . His great-grandfather is the economist Bernhard Harms , his uncle the former Germany boss of HP Inc. , Jörg Menno Harms . He studied Islamic studies and political science in Freiburg im Breisgau and Damascus and received his doctorate on Islamic mission groups on the Internet. He completed a traineeship at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and then worked as a freelance journalist.

From May 2004 Harms was a freelance editor at Spiegel Online. In April 2006 he became a permanent editor and from March 2007 he developed the contemporary history portal for one day of the magazine. From October 2007 to June 2008 he was head of department for one day. In July 2008 he became head of service at Spiegel Online and from March 2011 was deputy editor-in-chief. On January 13, 2015, he became editor-in-chief of Spiegel Online; on December 6, 2016, the publisher announced that he was leaving the company and will be replaced by his colleague Barbara Hans .

Since September 1, 2017, Harms has been editor-in-chief of the Berlin editorial team of t-online.de and managing director of Ströer News Publishing GmbH. He took over the office from Arne Henkes , who was previously acting editor-in-chief. His first novel, Temptation , was published in February 2019 .
