Barbara Janom Steiner (born April 2, 1963 ; in Scuol and resident in Sent ) is a Swiss politician ( BDP ) and member of the government of the canton of Graubünden from 2008 to 2018 (reaching the term limit).

education and profession

Janom Steiner grew up in Scuol and attended school there and high school in neighboring Ftan . After graduating from high school (type B, modern language, 1983) studied law at the University of Zurich until 1988 , where she graduated with a licentiate in law . In 1995 she was admitted to the Graubünden bar. 1995–2008 she worked as an independent lawyer in Davos and Chur. Her focus was on public law, in particular building and spatial planning law, constitutional and administrative law and family law. 2001–2008 she was a member of the independent complaints authority for radio and television (UBI) in Switzerland. In 2004–2005 she completed an Executive MBA at the University of St. Gallen .

Janom Steiner chaired the SVP of the Canton of Graubünden from 2000 to 2007 . From 2003 to 2008 she was a member of the Grand Council . After Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf was elected to the Federal Council, Janom Steiner was elected as her successor to the Government Council on March 30, 2008. In the same year the SVP Graubünden was converted into the BDP Graubünden . In 2010 and 2014 she was re-elected with the second best or best result; At the end of 2018, she resigned from the government council after reaching the limit in office. She has been a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank since 2015 .

In 2011, Barbara Janom Steiner was a participant in the Bilderberg Conference in St. Moritz .

Private

Steiner Janom has lived in Chur since 1994 and is married to Rolf Andreas Steiner.
