Barbara Lüthi

Barbara Lüthi (born August 7, 1973 in Zurich ) is a Swiss television journalist . The long-time China correspondent for Swiss television was named “Journalist of the Year” in German-speaking countries in September 2008 for a report on Chinese land expropriations.

After graduating from Matur and hosts school in Zurich and studying languages in Sydney, she started as a video journalist and an editor to work, including from 2001 in the editorial of the political and business magazine for Swiss television station Rundschau . From 2006 to 2014 she reported on China as a correspondent for Swiss television . Before she started a family with her husband, who is also a journalist, in 2009, she lived in Beijing , then mostly in Hong Kong because of the better air . The journalist reported on Southeast Asia from 2014 and concentrated on the realization of individual reports from 2015. This included a travel documentary on the Old Burma Road from Kunming to Calcutta that was first broadcast in October 2015 .

After Lüthi ended her work in Southeast Asia in 2017, she has been moderating the discussion program Club since January 2018 .

  • 2005: CNN Journalist Award , International TV Award in the Politics and Economy category for the report “Toy Factory” about working conditions in Chinese toy factories
  • 2005: Kinderothilfe Germany TV Award , Children Rights Award for a report on child trafficking on the Greek-Albanian border
  • 2008: CNN Journalist Award, TV category for the report "Land expropriation in China" and also CNN Journalist of the Year
