Barbara Putz-Plecko

Barbara Putz-Plecko (* 1956 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian artist and art educator and Vice -Rector for Research in Art and Science at the University of Applied Arts Vienna .

Life

Putz-Plecko's training began in 1974 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna , and at the same time she studied philosophy at the University of Vienna . One year later she finished her training at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and began her master's degree at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In 1979 she completed both philosophy and studies at the University of Applied Arts. From 1986 to 1992 she carried out active research and teaching in the field of museum studies and art education . In 1989 she studied art and therapy at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna alongside research. From 1993 to 1997 she taught as an assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .

From 1997 Barbara Putz-Plecko worked at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the management of the textile department - free, applied and experimental artistic design. From 2000 to 2005 she took over the management of the Institute for Art Studies , Art Education and Art Education. Since 2005 she has been in charge of the department of art and communicative practice in the textile sector. As Vice Rector, she worked from 2007 to 2011 in the areas of exhibition and event management at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Since October 2011, she has been the Vice Rector for Artistic and Scientific Research and Quality Development.

Art and art education

Putz-Plecko has several artistic focuses, which have changed over the years. While she focused on painting , drawings and objects in her early days , she is now primarily concerned with digital image production. From 1989 to 1992 she produced an animation film together with Peter Putz . Putz-Plecko's work has been exhibited at Damtschach Castle , the Center for Architecture in Sanaa and the Omani Society for Fine Arts in Muscat , among others . In 2018, she focused on fashion and curated an exhibition in the Freihausgasse gallery in Villach .

According to Barbara Putz-Plecko, learning is a creative process that can be significantly influenced by art-guided methods. Learning depends largely on how you learn. Room and learning climate, time and clarity can be of great importance. According to Putz-Plecko, learning based on art-guided methods is particularly clear. It promotes diversity and the understanding of different perspectives. Putz-Plecko is referring to research in neuroscience , according to which the senses stimulate thinking and creativity is promoted by neuroplasticity , the ability of the brain to change itself.

In 1997 Putz-Plecko was awarded the Theodor-Körner Prize . In 2011 she received the City of Villach's Culture Prize in the Bamberg Hall of the Parkhotel Villach .
