Barbara Wittig born Osterwald (born August 4, 1944 in Gössitz ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Barbara Wittig attended elementary school in Salzwedel until 1958 and did an agricultural apprenticeship from 1959 to 1961, completing school after the 10th grade. In 1961/62 she attended the workers and farmers faculty in Potsdam and graduated from high school. From 1962 to 1966 she studied German / Slavic at the Pedagogical University in Potsdam, which she finished with the state examination.

From 1966 to 1973 she worked as a teacher in Köthen and Halle (Saale) and then worked for the Kulturbund for a year. From 1974 until the reunification in 1990 she worked as a technical college teacher at the medical college in Halle and Cottbus / Hoyerswerda . After her mandate in the Landtag, she worked as an administrative clerk at the State Statistical Office of the Free State of Saxony from 1995 to 1998 (area elections / special censuses).

She is married and has two kids.

In January 1990, Barbara Wittig was a co-founder of the SPD in Hoyerswerda. There she acted as chairwoman of the SPD local association in 1993/94 and was chairwoman of the sub-district from 1999 to 2003. From 1994 to 2002 she was a member of the state executive committee of the SPD and from 2002 to 2006 deputy state chairwoman. In terms of local politics , she was a member of the district council of Hoyerswerda from 1990 to 1995 and a member of the city council there from 1994 to 2000.

From 1990 to 1994 she was a member of the Saxon State Parliament and from 1998 to 2005 a member of the German Bundestag for the Bundestag constituency 156 Kamenz - Hoyerswerda - Grossenhain . Here she was a member of the Interior Committee and an advisory member of the Committee on Transport .
