Life

Her parents were Gotthard Freiherr von Richthofen (1888–1969) and Dürili, nee. Steinberg (1890-1981). Her younger siblings were Brigitte von Kalm, geb. Freiin von Richthofen (1920–2002), and Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen (1922–1943), who was missing as a lieutenant in Stalingrad. She grew up in Riemberg, district of Goldberg / Lower Silesia.

Influenced in particular by her grandmother Therese von Richthofen, who introduced her grandchildren to the faith with a picture Bible, and the sister of the village pastor Heuser, she went to the Evangelical Clinic Bethel (Gilead) as a helper in 1937 at the age of 18 . In 1940 she was accepted as a deaconess student in Bethel and passed her exam as a nurse in 1944 . At the beginning of 1945, towards the end of the war, she worked as a hospital nurse in Iserlohn (Bethanien Hospital) for a few months . Because she was used in the hospital, she was declared a prisoner of war at the end of the war . Back in Bielefeld, she became the head nurse of the Gilead I and II hospitals in 1968.

Then she returned to Bethel, where she became a teaching nurse; from 1946 to 1955 she headed the nursing school at the Lübbecke district hospital and then the nursing school at the Sarepta hospitals in the Gilead Bethel Children's Hospital . In the meantime she was consecrated as a deaconess in 1947 . From 1967 to 1968 she attended the sister university of the Diakonie in Berlin-Zehlendorf . From 1975 to 1984 she was the head of the deaconess mother house Sarepta after being elected by the deaconess convention.
