Barbu Zaharescu

Barbu Zaharescu (born March 11, 1906 in Bârlad , † November 14, 2000 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian politician and diplomat .

Career

In 1923 his membership in the Romanian Communist Party brought him to the labor camp in Miercurea Ciuc . This was followed by the prisons of Chisinau , Aiud and Brasov . From 1941, the repressive organs included him on a list of dangerous communists.

Until 1962 he was editor-in-chief of the party organ Lupta de clasă (revistă) (class struggle), which was renamed "Era socialista" (socialist era) in 1972, and was managing director of the party publisher Editurii Partidul Muncitoresc Roman .

From 1948 to 1955 he was Dean of the Chair of Economics at the University of Bucharest . From 1952 to 1954 he was rector of the Maxim Gorki Institute. From 1954 to 1955 he was deputy director of the Institute for Historical and Sociopolitical Studies of the Central Committee of Partidul Muncitoresc Roman.

From March 17, 1955 to February 3, 1956 he was ambassador to Buenos Aires .

From March 7, 1956 to January 22, 1959 he was ambassador to Ankara .

From January 22nd, 1959 to July 29th, 1961 he was ambassador to Beijing and was accredited to Rangoon and Hanoi at the same time . From December 22, 1955 to July 24, 1965 he was a deputy member of the Central Committee of the KPR. From July 24, 1965 to November 24, 1974 he was a member of the Central Committee of the KPR. From November 28, 1974 to November 23, 1984 he was a member of the Central Audit Committee. From 1980 to 1989 he represented the KPR in the editorial team of the magazine “Problems ale păcii și socialismului” (Questions of Peace and Socialism);
