Bardo white

Bardo Weiß (born May 20, 1934 in Weißenthurm ; † August 5, 2018 ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and a priest of the diocese of Mainz .

Life

After graduating from high school, Weiss studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Mainz and Innsbruck from 1953 to 1960 . After various chaplain positions in Mainz, he became pastor in Dalsheim in 1965 . In 1963 he received his doctorate at the University of Mainz with a thesis on the history of salvation under Meister Eckhart . After completing his habilitation, he was Professor of Dogmatics at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1970 to 1999 . He also had a teaching position at the universities of Marburg and Koblenz-Landau . From 1973 to 1992 he was also spiritual at the Mainz seminary .

One of his main areas of research was German women's mysticism , on whose image of God, Christology, ecclesiology and doctrine of the sacraments he published numerous extensive volumes, especially after his retirement.

With an ecumenical group of Christian scholars, he founded the “Working Group Theology of Spirituality” in 1998 and was its first chairman until 2004.

One of his students is the philosophy professor Raymond Jahae, who teaches in Canada and who did his doctorate with Weiss on the mystic Hadewijch .
